We all know that today to earn and setting the table for meal two times a day is the most difficult task. Media has successfully covered the world hunger in past few years and it should be the major concern for all of us to protest against the food wastage. The question arises that why the food is wasted? The reason is simple that when it is not consumed or is thrown away by the retailers for no reason. It takes a lot of hard work to harvest crops and saving it from any harm so it’s totally not fair to waste any quantity of food anyway. Cook the food in the quantity you know you can eat. The government of all the countries should be involved in taking this quantitative measure of food production and consumption rate.
550 kilograms of food per person per year is wasted in Finland. The restaurants and retailer’s stores account for 50% of the food wasted and rest of 50% comes from the houses and food processing and manufacturing companies. Bread, fruits, bakery items, potatoes, homemade food and bakery dairy products are included in the food wasted. The expired items are most of them. This fact was found by the food research centers in the country.
The urban areas in Malaysia are majorly responsible for the country to be this list. The urban houses waste so much food that can’t even be imagined. Millions of ton of food is thrown away heartlessly in garbage and on the roads. The fruits and bakery items are wasted in greater quantities than any other countries. 8. The United Kingdom
560 kilograms of food per person per year goes wasted in The United Kingdom. In United Kingdom food wastage is considered to be the very serious issue because it affects the economy and environment of the country on very large scale. The domestic household waste comprises of 80% of the food. Larger quantities of food are wasted in cafes, bars and restaurants in UK. Bread slices, potatoes, vegetable salads, apples and other bakery products are wasted. In 2007 the campaign was launched that was named as “Love Food and Hate Waste” to stop people of UK from wasting food.
Germans throw away the huge amount of food. It is found that 20 million tons of the food is wasted every year in the country. The estimated yearly per person food wasted rating comes out to be 540 kilograms. Most of the retail stores are responsible for wasting the food. That is the expired food taken off from the shelves. The German Government is trying hard to solve the problem.
6. The Netherlands
This Dutch economy is also wasting the large amount of food. 610 kilograms of food per person per year is wasted in Netherlands. Wageningen UR Food and Bio based research centers are working on this issue and finding the ways to solve this food wasting problem. Most of the food wasted comes from the houses in Netherlands.
Almost 620 kilograms of food per person per year is wasted in Norway. 335,000 tons of the total food produced is thrown away unnecessarily. Mostly the wasted food contains vegetables, fruits and bakery items. This all gives rise to the environmental, economic and ethical problems in the country.
Canada is though one of the most educated and developed countries but is ruining its economy and environment badly because of unnecessary food wasting. 640 kilograms of food per person per year goes wasted in Canada. Toronto wastes the largest amount of food. Canada needs to control its production in order to control its consumption and food wastage. Most of the food waste comes from houses after that from the packaging and processing companies and then from the retailing stores.
In Denmark every year 660 kilograms of food per person is wasted. Most of the food waste comes from restaurants, cafes, catering centers and houses. To stop people from wasting the food movement namely “STOP WASTING FOOD” was conducted. The main aim of this movement was to stop people from over purchasing and over consuming. The movement leaders informed people the current hunger conditions of the world and also the danger to their own environment so they may not waste food.
The estimated amount of food that is wasted in this developed country is 690 kilograms per person per year. In Australia the main reason of food wastage that was found by the survey was over shopping. People spend large amount of money in purchasing eatables in a single visit to market that goes wasted or are expired when not used in time. The food of worth $5 billion goes wasted every year in Australia. The food waste has vegetables and fruits of worth $1.5 billion.

United States is said to be the most developed and economically strongest country of the world. But do you know the country wastes 760 kilograms of food per person per year. About 50 percent of the food that is harvested goes wasted. The food that is wasted has an estimated amount of US$48.3 billion.
The country spent round about $1 million in just disposing of the wasted food. Most of the food is wasted in institutional cafes and restaurants. Besides this residencies equally participate in food wasting. Along with food water is also wasted in large quantities.
